Research and development

Engineering advances grounded in physical evidence.

SPACEREL undertakes applied R&D in electronics and microelectronics, combining device and materials understanding with experimental investigation and reliability engineering. The work addresses technical challenges for which established specifications, conventional qualification evidence or existing engineering approaches may be insufficient.

Projects can span components, materials, packaging, electronic assemblies and the behaviour of systems in demanding service conditions. Scope and deliverables are developed around a defined technical objective.

Development scope

From unresolved technical questions to verified engineering outcomes.

Research activities may involve electronic technology development, materials and process assessment, specialist characterisation, reliability technology development and experimental validation. Work is undertaken independently or through technically appropriate collaborations and specialist laboratory partners.

Our emphasis is on creating new engineering knowledge and demonstrable technical capability, while reporting the boundaries and uncertainty of the evidence. Research findings and commercial know-how are protected according to the requirements of each project.

Industry relevance

R&D for electronics where failure carries consequences.

Development activities can address space, aerospace, defence, semiconductor and microelectronics, medical technology, energy and other harsh-environment applications. Specific projects follow the performance, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements of their intended use; work in one sector is not automatically transferable to another.

Collaboration

Specialist partnerships centred on a defined challenge.

SPACEREL engages with manufacturers, technology developers, systems integrators, laboratories and research organisations on collaborative development and contract R&D. Technical discussions begin with the application challenge, intended outcome, available evidence and appropriate confidentiality arrangements.
